Smash Badminton Club.

Dear Members

Thank you for your continued efforts in supporting Smash Badminton Club. We hope you are both enjoying and improving your game as we strive towards improving our club. If you have any suggestions as to how we can continue to improve our club, please give me your input.

This year 2008/09, we are looking at some major changes to our club. Due to the decrease in members and the fact that we have occasionally struggled to get teams out last year, we are looking to re-structure. In an attempt to lure new quality players to our club, thus helping to improve numbers on club night and to help improve the standard of play at our club, we feel it would be beneficial to change from a plastics shuttles club to a feathers club.

At present, we will be entering two teams for 2008-09, This may change as new players join this summer.

Team 1. The Herts Area league Mens 4 Premier Division (of which Smash won the 1st Division this year).

Team 2. Herts County League Mens 6. Division 3 (bottom division yet decent standard).

The Herts County league will prove very important to our club as the aim will be to reach the 1st Division the ultimate league in Hertfordshire. This will also allow us to use the players from either squads to play in both leagues thus increasing the pool of available players for matches. As a result of this, there would then be no practical use for entering teams in the Biggleswade League and to this league, we say goodbye.

Unfortunately there will be a cost implication to our club membership as feather shuttles are more expensive to use. Our new price structure is outlined below and I feel that it still offers good value for money, taking into account the small number of members in our club. We will continually monitor fees as hopefully new members join.

FEE STRUCTURE 2008-09

One off yearly payment £180.00

Juniors (Under 18s) yearly payment £100.00

Quarterly Payment £45.00 Payments Due on the following dates:-

2nd July 08
2nd Oct 08
2nd Jan 09
2nd Apr 09

Pay as you go £5.00 per night

Juniors (Under 18s)  £3.00

Match Fees £3.50 per match (home or away)
£2.50 per match (For those paying a one off yearly payment).


We are looking at ways of finding sponsorship from local businesses to help finance shuttles and t-shirts, plus to bring exciting new elements to our club that other clubs do not offer eg a court purely for drills, the use of a home based coach and possibly a court for singles.

If you have any comments, please do not hesitate to ask. The club is only as good as the experience it offers its members.

All club members. I would like to inform all club members of our new pricing policy coming into place. Rather than members paying 10 sessions at a time, we now have a yearly rate of £150.00. We believe this still works out as good value for money, the average playing time of a club member on club night is close to 1hr30min, as there is little sitting out. This works out at approx £2.88 per evening if you were to attend every week. For those who are not regular or do not wish to pay this way, we will continue our £4.00 per evening fee.

We do hope that as many of you as possible will pay yearly as it simplifies the running of the clubs finances which at present is slightly in the negative. The yearly fee will also shows commitment to our club from our members which has been so positive over the past 3 years.

Price changes to come into effect on start of new courses of 10 of each club member.

We also would like to remind all our individual captains to collect match fees from our players on match night. We are keeping the cost of home and away match fees at £2.00 per match. This money is very important to the club and helps to subserdise our home venue during a match night, as only 4 club members will be using the two courts on that evening the courts become loss making.

We are currently looking for sponsorship from a local or national business to help us reach our goals.
